Madhya Pradesh is taking a leading role in shaping a developed and self-reliant India. Moving ahead in this direction, the state has initiated a major step towards making India self-sufficient in the production of electronic devices. An Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC 2.0) is being set up at Bandikhedi village in Berasia tehsil of Bhopal district. This cluster will not only ensure the supply of electronic devices for domestic and state-level needs but will also facilitate exports to international markets.

The global demand for electronic devices is growing rapidly as modern lifestyles are increasingly dependent on them. From rural areas to urban centers, people are aware of high-quality electronics, creating a global competition in electronic manufacturing. To compete globally, world-class quality in local production has become essential.

The Bandikhedi EMC 2.0 project will serve as a Common Facility Centre (CFC) with world-class infrastructure. It will produce electronic devices meeting international standards, fulfilling local demand as well as boosting exports. The project will also promote the Electronics System Design & Manufacturing (ESDM) sector, reducing India’s dependence on imports.

At one time, India had to import most of its electronic equipment. Today, the situation has changed—India is not only a consumer but also a producer and is advancing toward becoming an exporter. This aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a self-reliant India, where each state contributes to both domestic production and exports.

Under the EMC 2.0 scheme, the Government of India has earmarked ₹22,919 crore for electronics manufacturing clusters across various states, aiming to attract investments of over ₹59,350 crore. It is expected to generate production worth ₹4.56 lakh crore and create more than 91,600 direct employment opportunities.

Madhya Pradesh has taken the lead with Bandikhedi village chosen as a key location. The state government has reserved 210.21 acres of land for the project, located about 70 km from Bhopal and well connected to highways. The state cabinet has approved an initial budget of ₹371.95 crore, of which ₹146.63 crore will come from the central government and ₹225.32 crore from the state. The project is expected to attract ₹1,500 crore in investment and create 30,000 direct jobs along with large-scale indirect employment.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has shown special interest in industrial innovation and has been inviting both domestic and global entrepreneurs to invest in Madhya Pradesh. The cluster will feature plug-and-play facilities, common infrastructure, and shared services, making it an attractive hub for investors.

The cluster will manufacture a wide range of electronics, including smartphones, televisions, EV components, automotive sensors, industrial automation equipment, diagnostic and medical devices, laptops, servers, and 5G telecom equipment. It will also support India’s semiconductor ecosystem, benefiting from the government’s Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme.

Apart from Madhya Pradesh, other states like Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Karnataka, Haryana, Telangana, and Bihar are also developing EMC projects. However, with the pace of work in Bandikhedi, Madhya Pradesh is set to emerge as a frontrunner in India’s journey to becoming a global electronics hub.
