The visit of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar to Bastar has been hailed as a symbol of the region’s transformation, with Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai calling it a reflection of a “new and confident Bastar” emerging from years of challenges.
Taking to social media, the Chief Minister described Tendulkar’s arrival in the remote village of Chhindnar in Dantewada as a powerful message of change. He noted that Bastar is steadily moving beyond fear and instability toward development, opportunity, and renewed self-belief. According to him, such initiatives will inspire local youth to dream bigger and pursue their ambitions with confidence.
Sports as a Catalyst for Change
The Chief Minister emphasized that Tendulkar’s interaction with children and his efforts to promote sports would play a crucial role in shaping young minds. He highlighted that sports not only nurture talent but also instill discipline, teamwork, and positive energy among youth.
Calling the visit a matter of pride for the state, Sai said it would serve as a lasting source of motivation for children across tribal regions.
Multi-Sports Ground Inaugurated
During his visit, Tendulkar inaugurated a multi-sports ground at Swami Atmanand Hindi Medium High School in Chhindnar. The facility has been developed jointly by the Sachin Tendulkar Foundation and the Mann Deshi Foundation, founded by Chetna Sinha.
The initiative aims to strengthen grassroots sports infrastructure, especially in tribal areas, and is part of the broader “Maidan Cup” campaign. The program seeks to provide access to quality sports facilities and encourage holistic development among children.
Engaging with Young Talent
Tendulkar, accompanied by his family, actively participated in sports activities with local children, including tug of war, volleyball, running, and kho-kho. His presence energized the students, who showcased enthusiasm and team spirit throughout the event.
Addressing the students, Tendulkar stressed that success in sports and life requires discipline, hard work, and dedication. He encouraged them to avoid shortcuts and focus on consistent effort, noting that talent must be nurtured with the right guidance and facilities.
He also highlighted the importance of playing multiple sports, explaining that it helps in building strategic thinking and mental strength.
Expanding Opportunities Across Villages
Under this initiative, similar sports grounds are planned in around 50 villages, promoting games like cricket, football, and kabaddi. The effort is expected to open new avenues for rural youth and help identify future sporting talent from remote regions.
