In a move aimed at safeguarding farmers’ interests, the Chhattisgarh government has announced a two-day extension in the paddy procurement process across the state. Acting on the instructions of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, farmers will now be allowed to sell their paddy at procurement centres on February 5 and 6, 2026.
The decision is expected to benefit a large number of farmers who were unable to sell their produce earlier due to procedural or timing-related issues. State officials said the extension would ensure that no eligible farmer is deprived of the opportunity to market their crop.
Eligible Categories of Farmers
According to official guidelines, farmers falling under three specific categories will be permitted to sell paddy during the extended period. These include farmers who applied for procurement tokens after January 10, 2026, but whose verification could not be completed on time.
The extension will also apply to farmers whose applications were verified and approved after January 10 and were found to have paddy available for sale. In addition, farmers who received tokens for January 28, 29, or 30, 2026, but were unable to sell their paddy on the allotted dates due to unavoidable reasons, have also been included.
Arrangements to Ensure Smooth Procurement
To prevent inconvenience to farmers, the state government has directed concerned officials to ensure adequate availability of gunny bags and labourers at procurement centres. These measures aim to ensure that the extended procurement process is carried out smoothly and without delays.
The Chhattisgarh government said the move reflects its continued commitment to farmers’ welfare. Ensuring timely and secure sale of agricultural produce remains a top priority for the state administration, officials added.
