A woman suffering from advanced thyroid cancer has been admitted to the district hospital after local authorities intervened to ensure urgent medical care. The patient, Kapura Markam from Katabhara (Nagwahi), is reportedly in a critical condition and unable to move without assistance.

Her husband, Samlu Markam, brought her to the collectorate on a motorcycle seeking help. Taking swift note of the situation, District Collector Gopal Verma immediately arranged an ambulance and directed officials to admit the patient to the district hospital without delay. He also instructed the Chief Medical and Health Officer to ensure proper treatment and make arrangements for her transfer to Raipur for specialized care.

According to health officials, the patient has been battling stage IV thyroid cancer for an extended period. She had previously undergone chemotherapy at AIIMS Raipur in November 2025 and received treatment at multiple healthcare institutions, including Mekahara (Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Memorial Hospital), DK S Hospital, and some private facilities in Raipur.

Earlier, upon receiving information about her condition, a health team had visited her village and facilitated her transfer to Raipur through a 108 ambulance. She was admitted to a cancer research unit, where specialists monitored her condition and provided treatment.

Medical history indicates that her illness was first noticed when she developed a painful swelling in her neck. Initial consultation at a local primary health center led to a referral to higher medical facilities. Over the past year, she has undergone extensive treatment not only in Raipur but also at Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai, where she received care for about a month in early 2025.

Despite undergoing multiple rounds of treatment, her condition recently worsened again, prompting her family to seek urgent help. She has now been admitted to the district hospital and is expected to be shifted to Raipur shortly for further specialized treatment under expert supervision.

The swift response by the district administration highlights the importance of timely intervention and coordinated healthcare support for critically ill patients in rural and remote areas.
