A wave of bomb threat emails targeting judicial premises caused panic across Chhattisgarh on Wednesday, putting security agencies on high alert. District courts in Bastar, Rajnandgaon, and Surguja received threatening emails, prompting immediate evacuation and intensive security checks.
Bastar Court First to Receive Threat
The first threat was reported on Wednesday morning at the Bastar District Court. Following the alert, the Superintendent of Police rushed to the spot to oversee security arrangements. As a precautionary measure, the court complex was evacuated, and a thorough search operation was launched with the assistance of bomb disposal and dog squads.
Officials said the email was sent from an unidentified address, and a technical probe has been initiated. Investigators are also examining whether the threat is linked to similar incidents reported earlier in Rajnandgaon.
Rajnandgaon Court Receives Repeat Threat
The Rajnandgaon District Court later received another bomb threat via an anonymous email, marking a repeat of a similar incident reported earlier. With investigations into the previous case still ongoing, the fresh threat added to concerns among court staff and legal professionals.
Additional Superintendent of Police Kirtan Rathore stated that police and bomb disposal teams were immediately deployed. All courtrooms were searched in detail, and people present in the premises were safely escorted out. No explosive material or suspicious objects were found during the checks. A case has been registered against unknown persons.
Surguja District Court Also Targeted
In Surguja, a threatening email was received on the official email ID of the District and Sessions Judge. Senior police officials, including the SP and ASP, arrived at the court complex along with a heavy police deployment.
Bomb squads and dog squads conducted an extensive search of the premises. Security checks were intensified at all entry points, with individuals screened using metal detectors and vehicles subjected to strict inspection.
Cyber Teams Probe Email Origin
Surguja SSP Rajesh Agrawal confirmed that the threatening email was sent through the Outlook platform. The cyber cell is conducting a detailed technical analysis to trace the origin of the email and identify those responsible. Although no suspicious items have been detected so far, security arrangements have been further tightened as a precaution.
Security Strengthened Across the State
In view of the repeated threats, the state police have issued directives to enhance security at all judicial complexes across Chhattisgarh. Surveillance has been increased, and officers have been instructed to respond swiftly to any suspicious activity.
Police officials emphasized that efforts are underway to identify and apprehend those behind the threats. Authorities have also assured that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure public safety and allow court proceedings to continue without disruption.
