The Chhattisgarh government has reinforced strict conduct rules for its employees, making it clear that any involvement in political activities or holding positions outside official duties will not be tolerated. The General Administration Department has issued a fresh reminder to all departments, divisional commissioners, collectors, and heads of departments to ensure compliance with civil service conduct regulations.
According to the directive, all government officials and staff must adhere to the Chhattisgarh Civil Services (Conduct) Rules, 1965, which mandate the discharge of duties with complete impartiality, integrity, and dedication. The instructions have been circulated to all government offices across the state, including the Revenue Board in Bilaspur.
Complete Ban on Political Activities
The government has reiterated that no government servant can be an active member of any political party or organization. Direct or indirect participation in political activities has been strictly prohibited to maintain neutrality in public service.
Restrictions on Holding Other Positions
The order also states that employees cannot accept any position in organizations, committees, or institutions without prior approval from the competent authority. This applies to both government and non-government bodies, especially in cases where such roles could compromise the impartial functioning of official duties.
Strict Action for Violations
The government has warned of stringent disciplinary action against those violating these rules. Under the Chhattisgarh Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1966, penalties may include suspension, withholding of increments, or other severe actions.
Overall, the government has sent a clear message that “politicking” while in government service will not be accepted. The move is being seen as a significant step toward ensuring transparency, accountability, and neutrality in administration.
