Workers in Gautam Buddh Nagar have intensified their demand for better salaries, weekly holidays and improved workplace conditions as discussions began between labour representatives and a high-level committee set up by the Uttar Pradesh government.

The committee held an important meeting in Greater Noida with workers and other stakeholders, where employees from several industrial units presented their concerns and expectations.

Government Forms Special Committee

The Uttar Pradesh government constituted the panel on the directions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to address growing unrest in the industrial belt and review the demands raised by workers.

As per the official order, the committee is headed by the Industrial Development Commissioner. Senior officials including the Additional Chief Secretary (MSME), Principal Secretary (Labour and Employment), and the Labour Commissioner are part of the panel, along with representatives from labour unions and industry associations.

Key Demands Raised by Workers

Workers said many employees are currently earning between ₹10,000 and ₹15,000 per month and are seeking an increase to ₹18,000 to ₹20,000. They cited inflation and better wage structures in neighbouring states such as Haryana as major reasons behind the demand.

Employees also sought a guaranteed weekly day off and strict implementation of double overtime wages.

A worker from an industrial unit in Sector 63 said employees have been working for years without a significant salary revision and now expect wages that match present living costs.

More Than Just Salary Issues

Another worker who attended the meeting said the concerns go beyond wages. According to him, workers also want proper overtime compensation, respectful treatment at the workplace and fixed weekly leave.

He added that the movement is also about dignity and fair treatment.

Job Security and Labour Rights

Officials said workers also raised issues related to job security, proper implementation of labour laws and the need for a safer and more professional work environment.

District Magistrate Medha Roopam said the administration is trying to resolve the matter through dialogue and consultation.

She stated that the committee would hear all stakeholders and submit recommendations on priority while ensuring workers’ interests and maintaining industrial peace.

More Meetings Expected

Authorities said this was only the first phase of discussions and more rounds of talks will be held in the coming days. Final decisions on important issues, especially wage revision, are expected to be taken at the government level.

Meanwhile, the administration has appealed to workers to maintain peace, return to their duties and avoid rumours, advising them to rely only on official updates.
