Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Raksha Khadse said that sports are creating new opportunities and hope in regions once affected by Naxalism, as she visited Khelo India Tribal Games 2026 during her tour of Jagdalpur and Raipur on Wednesday. She described the atmosphere at the event as energetic, optimistic, and full of transformation.

The minister praised the efforts of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and highlighted the positive response from athletes, local communities, and residents. More than 2,500 tribal athletes from across Indian states and Union Territories are participating in various sports at the Games, showcasing their talent on a national platform.

Khadse emphasized that the Tribal Games reflect the central government’s commitment to empowering tribal youth by providing them with opportunities to build a better future through sports. According to her, the initiative is helping change the identity of regions that were once known for conflict and underdevelopment, replacing it with progress and sporting excellence.

She noted that Chhattisgarh, which was earlier associated with Naxalism, is now witnessing a new direction where young people can channel their energy into sports and represent the country at national and international levels. The minister expressed confidence that many athletes participating in the Games could go on to represent India at major global events such as the Olympics, Asian Games, and Commonwealth Games.

Khadse credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for envisioning the initiative, along with support from Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, for strengthening sports infrastructure and promoting development in tribal regions.

The minister also highlighted the impact of the Asmita League, launched in 2021 to encourage rural and tribal women to participate in competitive sports. She said a large number of medal winners in hockey, weightlifting, and football at the Tribal Games are former participants of the league, with nearly 60–70 percent of female athletes coming from the program.

Among the standout performers, athlete Anjali Munda was mentioned for her achievements, while all five gold medals in swimming were also secured by Asmita League participants. Khadse added that the government aims to expand the league further to village-level competitions to ensure greater participation of women in sports.

The minister concluded by stating that initiatives like Khelo India Tribal Games are not only promoting sports but also transforming lives in tribal regions by providing recognition, opportunities, and a pathway to national and international success.
