Taking charge as the first Police Commissioner of Raipur Commissionerate, Dr Sanjeev Shukla has sent a clear message to the police force that there will be no compromise on law and order in the city. Soon after assuming office, he convened his first comprehensive review meeting on Monday at the C-4 building in Civil Lines.

The meeting was attended by the Additional Police Commissioner, all Deputy Commissioners, Assistant Commissioners of Police, and Station House Officers. During the interaction, Dr Shukla introduced himself to the officers and outlined his priorities and working approach for the Raipur police.

Focus on Visible Policing and Crime Prevention

Emphasising proactive policing, the Police Commissioner said citizens must constantly feel the presence of the police. He directed officers to increase foot patrols on city roads, strengthen night-time patrolling, and prioritise visible policing.

Dr Shukla made it clear that policing should not be limited to action after crimes occur. “The primary responsibility of the police is to prevent crime before it happens,” he told officers.

Zero Tolerance for Street Crime and Anti-Social Activities

During the meeting, Dr Shukla issued strict instructions to curb knife-related violence, substance abuse, and illegal gathering spots. He also ordered continuous monitoring of habitual offenders, goons, and individuals listed under police surveillance.

The Commissioner stated that no rallies, processions, protests, or mass events will be allowed without prior permission. He further instructed that bars, cafes, and restaurants operating late at night must strictly adhere to prescribed closing times.

Discipline and Accountability Emphasised

Highlighting the importance of professionalism, Dr Shukla stressed that discipline and accountability are essential within the police force. He urged officers to remain active and responsive to ensure public trust in the police system.

Strengthening Intelligence and Cyber Crime Response

Dr Shukla separately reviewed the functioning of the District Special Branch, directing officials to further strengthen the intelligence network to enhance city security.

He also held a dedicated meeting with the Cyber Crime Branch, expressing concern over the rise in cyber offences. Officers were instructed to provide immediate assistance to victims and to pursue investigations beyond minor cases to track and act against major cyber criminals.
