Raipur, December 19, 2025/ Hands that once carried weapons are now shaping bricks and mortar. Paths earlier marked by fear and violence are steadily transforming into foundations of trust and development. Guided by the sensitive vision and clear intent of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, Sukma district is witnessing a new and hopeful chapter of rehabilitation that presents a strong and inspiring picture of change.

At the rehabilitation centre in Sukma, 35 surrendered Naxalites are being trained as masons, enabling them to move decisively towards self-reliance and dignity. This initiative reflects a practical and compassionate approach to rehabilitation, where reintegration is not just promised but actively realized.

The vocational training programme is being conducted jointly by the district administration and SBI RSETI. A total of 35 participants, including 15 women and 20 men, are undergoing structured, hands-on training in construction skills such as foundation work, brick masonry, plastering, roof casting and quality control. The course follows a systematic, step-by-step approach to ensure professional competence.

Beyond employment, the programme is emerging as a powerful instrument of social transformation. After completing the training, the participants will be engaged in the construction of incomplete and new houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin) in Sukma district. This will provide them with stable and respectable livelihoods while also addressing the shortage of skilled masons in remote and Naxal-affected areas.

District Collector Shri Devesh Dhruv described the initiative as a meaningful step towards lasting social change. He said that true surrender is not limited to laying down arms, but also means becoming self-reliant and returning to the mainstream of society with dignity. He emphasized that the administration is committed to providing skills, employment opportunities and essential facilities to youth living in rehabilitation centres so they can rebuild their lives with self-respect.

Chief Executive Officer of the District Panchayat, Shri Mukund Thakur, highlighted that skilled manpower is essential for the effective implementation of government construction schemes, including PMAY–Gramin. He said the programme links surrendered youth with employment as well as social responsibility.

Rehabilitated resident Podiyam Bhima from Polampalli shared that after nearly 30 years with the organization, his life has completely changed. “There are good arrangements for food and accommodation. I am receiving mason training now. Earlier, I was also trained as an electrician and mechanic. I can now work with dignity,” he said.

Muchaki Ranvati from Puvarti, who spent 24 years with the organization, said rehabilitation brought her back to her family. After tailoring training, she is now learning masonry. She also participated in the Bastar Olympics and won first prize. “We are receiving benefits of various government schemes,” she said.

Ganga Vetti from Dabbamarka said her life has transformed after rehabilitation. She was provided a mobile phone and a mason’s toolkit, and special camps helped her obtain Aadhaar, Ayushman card, ration card and job card. “If there is any problem, the Collector and SP listen to us immediately,” she added.

Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai stated that the Chhattisgarh government is firmly committed to establishing lasting peace in Naxal-affected regions through dialogue, sensitivity and development. Equipping surrendered youth with skills, employment and dignity, and reconnecting them with society, remains the core objective of the state’s rehabilitation policy.

The ongoing efforts in Sukma clearly show that with sensitive administration, trust-building and development-focused policies, youth once drawn into violence can be given a new identity and a better future. This is the true foundation of rehabilitation and lasting peace.
