After a long wait for cricket fans, the excitement of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to return to Chhattisgarh. A Bengaluru-based IPL franchise has chosen Raipur as its home venue, with two IPL matches scheduled to be played in the state capital. This marks the return of IPL to Chhattisgarh after 13 years, a development expected to give a fresh boost to sporting activities in the region.
The decision to host matches in Raipur was taken considering the city’s international-standard stadium and the strong enthusiasm of local cricket fans. Officials believe the move will further strengthen Chhattisgarh’s identity as an emerging sports hub.
India vs New Zealand T20 on January 23
Ahead of the IPL matches, Raipur will also host an India vs New Zealand T20 international on January 23 at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium. The district administration and the Chhattisgarh State Cricket Association (CSCA) have completed detailed preparations to ensure smooth conduct of the high-profile match.
To avoid past issues, the cricket association has issued strict instructions that no spectator will be allowed to enter the stadium after the first innings ends. This step has been taken in view of crowd management problems witnessed during previous matches.
Tight Security Arrangements in Place
More than 350 private security personnel will be deployed during the match, along with 45 CSCA officials on special duty. All 13 major entry gates of the stadium have been fitted with iron barricades to regulate crowd movement.
Each gate will be jointly manned by police personnel, private security staff and cricket association officials. Additionally, security personnel will be stationed along the boundary line to prevent spectators from entering the field, an issue that had surfaced during earlier events.
Strict Monitoring of Food Prices
Complaints of overpricing of food and beverages during previous matches have prompted authorities to enforce strict controls this time. Vendors have been warned against charging more than the approved rates, and a special monitoring team has been formed to oversee compliance. Action will be taken against any vendor found violating the rules.
Officials Assure Zero Tolerance
CSCA President Vijay Shah said that while there were shortcomings in security arrangements in the past, comprehensive measures have been put in place this time.
“The safety of spectators and players is our top priority. No negligence will be tolerated at any level,” he said.
With IPL’s return and international cricket coming back to Raipur, fans in Chhattisgarh are set for an exciting cricket season ahead.
