Tensions in Assam’s Kokrajhar After Alleged Rape, Accused shot in Police Custody

The district of Kokrajhar in Western Assam is witnessing heightened tensions following the alleged rape of a mentally challenged woman on Saturday. Police shot and injured the accused, Rafikul Islam, on Sunday evening, stating that he attempted to escape custody.

  • The alleged crime occurred in the Pathargat area of Kokrajhar on Saturday.

  • Rafikul Islam was immediately arrested by police, and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to probe the case.
